A sharp tool makes working wood easier, safer and gives better results. Understanding how to sharpen hand tools is a fundamental skill every woodworker needs to understand.

My two-hour beginner sharpening course will give you the basics of sharpening the two most used hand tools, chisels and planes. We will cover the different common, and accessible, sharpening equipment and how to use the different jigs available to produce a sharp edge.

Topics covered:

  • Diamond plates,
  • Japanese whetstones,
  • Abrasive films on float glass,
  • The common and homemade jigs available designed to hold the tool at the correct angles whilst sharpening.

You are more than welcome to bring a tool you want to sharpen, but be aware that this short course just covers the basics required, so you can be confident sharpening at home.

These courses are run as required, and for up to 4 people.
